South Maxico consists of four free-lancing Stockholm musicians. When the band was formed in the fall of 2004, they had already played together in a variety of projects and settings, from small-group jazz and symphony orchestras to pop artists and studio sessions.

The band started rehearsing original tunes and the eclectic sound of South Maxico was apparent from the start, rooted in the jazz tradition but with influences from many different styles of music. The unique sound of the two guitars, often acoustic, is another telltale feature, as are the strong melodic lines, some of which were written as early as in the 80’s by Max Schultz but have not been recorded or released until now.

South Maxico’s debut album 5 O’Clock Tea comprises no less than 15 tracks, most of which are written by Max Schultz, and they are all recorded live in the studio. The songs are characterized by strong melodies, not too lengthy solos, and a huge variety of sounds and rhythms.
